Orange County In-Home Family Photography Workshop

A quiet, light-filled morning at home in Orange County, captured entirely on film.

Recently, I had the opportunity to host a photography workshop in Orange County, and it took place in the most beautiful, light-filled family home. The kind of home that feels warm and lived in—in the most welcoming way.

I want every family I photograph to know that their homes are always the spaces I’m drawn to. Not because they’re “perfect,” but because they feel real.

There’s something about being invited into a family’s home that always feels special.

A Real Home, A Real Family

Throughout the session, I focused on creating intentional and meaningful images that gave a glimpse into Sammie’s family and the connection between them. Nothing forced-just a normal morning together. I want each image to feel like a frame from a vintage romance film – filled with emotion, honesty, and a sense of timelessness. I embraced the slow and deliberate process of shooting on film, taking the time to carefully frame each shot and waiting for the moment to document.

The kids played, snuggled with mom and dad, jumped on the bed, played the piano and flipped through books… all the little moments that make up everyday life. It was the perfect reminder that you don’t need a big production to create meaningful images.

Those simple, in-between moments—the quiet glances, playful nudges, and soft morning light—are always the ones that linger in memory, and exactly what draws me to in-home family photography.

Why I Chose to Shoot This Entire Session on Film

This entire session was photographed on film, which made it even more special.

Shooting film slows everything down—in the best way. It makes you more intentional, more present, and more connected to what’s happening right in front of you. There’s no rapid-fire clicking or checking the back of the camera. Just trusting the light, the moment, and the story as it unfolds.

As an Orange County family photographer, I love incorporating film into my work because it brings such a timeless, honest feel to images. The tones are soft, the movement feels real, and there’s a depth that’s hard to replicate.

Teaching What I Love

Hosting this workshop was such a meaningful experience for me. Being able to invite other photographers into a real home, show them how I approach sessions, and encourage them to slow down and truly see what’s in front of them—it’s something I don’t take lightly.

We focused on finding light in everyday spaces, letting go of perfection, and documenting connection over posing.

Because at the end of the day, that’s what family photography is really about.

The Beauty of Keeping It Simple

There’s something really powerful about creating beautiful images in an ordinary space. No elaborate setups, no perfect conditions—just good light, real connection, and a willingness to embrace things as they are.

This session was a perfect example of that.
It’s also exactly what I hope families see when they’re considering a session: your home, just as it is, is enough.

A slow morning at home.

Kids being kids.

As an Orange County family photographer—capturing real, everyday moments through natural, documentary-style storytelling. Getting to share this through both client sessions and photography workshops fills my cup in the best way.

I’m so grateful to this family for opening their home, and to the photographers who trusted me to learn alongside them.

And these? These are the images we created together—all on film, exactly as it happened.
