“Say yes to that thing. Work with a mentor, stop minimizing what you are good at, and throw yourself into it with no apologies. You are good at something for a reason. God designed you this way on purpose.” -Jen Hatmaker

About Mentoring

As artists, we all have our own unique processes, and they’re always evolving. My goal as a mentor for photographers in San Clemente, CA is to walk alongside you as you bring your creative and business dreams to life. Sometimes it takes having someone sit with you, truly see you, and help you uncover what’s inside so you can bring out the work you’ve been dreaming of. Let me guide you in finding your own aesthetic and creative voice so you can create art that feels authentic and inspired.

My mentoring sessions are a personalized, one-on-one experience — available in person here in Orange County or virtually through Zoom. We’ll cover everything from finding confidence in your artistic voice and creating purpose-driven work, to the technical aspects like shooting in manual mode, mastering light, managing your website, pricing, and post-processing. Whenever possible, we’ll also include a styled shoot that we photograph together for hands-on experience.

I offer a variety of mentoring packages to meet you exactly where you are in your creative journey. Sessions are priced for Orange County, CA, but I’m happy to discuss travel dates and investment options if you’d like me to come to you.

Below are some basic structures to choose from, reach out if you want to talk more. -xx

FULL DAY 6 HOUR MENTORSHIPS

These are my personal favorite! This one-on-one session is in-person and interactive, and will provide you with fresh new content for your portfolio.

For photographers who already have their own business running, my mentoring sessions are designed to be fully personalized so you get exactly what you need from our time together. We’ll meet up and go through any questions you may have growing as an artist and running a successful photography business. We’ll talk about expressing your unique point of view, developing meaningful work, and refining your process so every shoot feels successful. Along the way, I’ll also share my own approach to running a photography business in Orange County, giving you insight and practical tools to help you continue building a brand you’re proud of. We can cover any of the following:

—defining your style

—booking your ideal client

—portfolio review

—editing/workflow

—LR/post processing

—approaching light in any situation

—directing your subject gently and positively

—goal setting

—pricing

—instagram/social media

—collaborating/cultivating your community

After the Q&A portion of your mentoring session, we’ll dive into a styled shoot together that I plan and organize with a real couple, family, mother and child, or model—depending on the type of photography you want to focus on. You'll get to observe while I get to know the subject prior to shooting, get them comfortable, find the best light, and move through my approach to shooting. You'll watch me shoot and direct the subject, asking questions in real time and getting feedback as we go. We’ll also look at your own portfolio together and talk through how you can apply what you’re learning to your work.

Next, we’ll set up an indoor or outdoor session—based on your goals—so you can see how I handle family photography sessions or other scenarios you want to master. Afterwards, we’ll grab dinner, chat through the shoot as a whole, review your images, and do a hands-on critique and edit together using Lightroom and your presets. Some of my past mentees have follow-up questions that come up after our session, and I always welcome those. I’m here to answer all of your questions about finding your unique perspective, creating meaningful imagery full of connection, ad running a successful business.
